It all started on a family trip to McLeod Ganj.
After an early morning visit to His Holiness the Dalai Lama’s residence, we stepped out into a bustling street alive with color, calm, and the familiar clinking of Tibetan prayer bells, singing bowls, and prayer flags fluttering in the breeze. The air felt spiritually charged.
I was simply walking along, soaking it all in—when something pulled me toward a small roadside vendor.
There, nestled between other souvenirs, sat a singing bowl that seemed to call out to me.
The vendor noticed my gaze, picked it up with reverence, and placed it gently in my hands. I struck it lightly with the mallet—and something clicked inside me. A deep, calming vibration resonated in my chest. I had never experienced anything quite like it.
Then, he rimmed the bowl and handed it back to me. I copied his movement—and the melody that emerged was divine. Even my husband was mesmerized by the sound. He tried, but the bowl didn’t sing for him the same way.
I took it as a sign.
This bowl wasn’t just a souvenir. It was a soul call.
From Mantelpiece to Mindful Practice
I brought that singing bowl home to Mumbai. It lived on our mantelpiece for a while, occasionally played when I felt called. Around that time, I had casually started my Instagram page : @gmantra.in – where I shared gratitude quotes and affirmations.
One day, on a whim, I uploaded a short reel of me rimming the singing bowl.
My cousin Uma from London messaged me instantly:
“Why don’t you facilitate sound baths? They’ll be so calming.”
Sound Bath? I had never even heard the term. But something about it intrigued me.
Discovering My First Sound Healing Course
After some reading, Googling, and lots of scrolling, I found my way to IASH.in – the International Academy of Sound Healing. I connected with a wonderful teacher Poonam, from Pune, and one phone call later, my heart knew this was the path.
I signed up for the Level 1 Sound Healing Certification Course — a 2-day full-day immersion where we worked with 4 Himalayan Singing Bowls and a Tingsha. That was my proper entry into this powerful healing modality.
Practicing During the Pandemic
Soon after, I was facilitating online sound healing therapy sessions, helping people relax, unwind, and reset. Even in the middle of the pandemic, healing could happen—through a screen, through sound, through intention.
As my confidence grew, I enrolled in Level 2 with Satya Sir from Ahmedabad, a 5-day full-day intensive where I deepened my knowledge, practiced with chakra bowls, and began understanding energy alignment through frequency.
